Todos los a\u00f1os, hacia abril-mayo, el buque de investigaci\u00f3n y abastecimiento de Sud\u00e1frica, el S.A. Agulhas II, realiza su viaje anual de socorro (toma de posesi\u00f3n) a la isla subant\u00e1rtica Marion. El viaje tiene como objetivo relevar al equipo de hibernaci\u00f3n que ha estado viviendo en la isla durante el a\u00f1o anterior y reabastecer la estaci\u00f3n de investigaci\u00f3n de la isla. Este viaje de un mes de duraci\u00f3n es una parte importante de los calendarios de los investigadores sudafricanos del subant\u00e1rtico, ya que proporciona una valiosa oportunidad para realizar investigaciones cr\u00edticas en la isla y para formar y garantizar el intercambio de conocimientos entre los investigadores invernantes salientes y entrantes.<\/p>\n

Este a\u00f1o, el Proyecto MFM volver\u00e1 a participar en el viaje de recogida, con una cara nueva que se unir\u00e1 al equipo de hibernaci\u00f3n. El Proyecto MFM se complace en dar la bienvenida al equipo a Monique van Bers como Asistente de Investigaci\u00f3n del Proyecto MFM para la temporada 2024\/2025. Monique tomar\u00e1 el relevo de Camilla Smyth (Asistente de Investigaci\u00f3n 2023\/2024) y pasar\u00e1 los pr\u00f3ximos 13 meses viviendo y trabajando en la Isla Marion. Sobre por qu\u00e9 le hace tanta ilusi\u00f3n ir a la Isla Marion, Monique escribe: \u00abSiempre ha sido un sue\u00f1o para m\u00ed desde que o\u00ed hablar de ella por primera vez en el instituto. Estoy entusiasmada porque participar\u00e9 activamente en los esfuerzos de conservaci\u00f3n y ayudar\u00e9 a preservar las especies aut\u00f3ctonas. Tambi\u00e9n estoy deseando afrontar el reto mental que supone enfrentarse a las impredecibles condiciones meteorol\u00f3gicas de esta isla remota.\u00bb<\/p>\n

Monique, que complet\u00f3 su licenciatura con matr\u00edcula de honor en la Universidad de Pretoria, ha pasado mucho tiempo realizando trabajo de campo en Kwa-Zulu-Natal y Lesotho, y est\u00e1 entusiasmada por trabajar en un entorno muy diferente. Escribe: \u00abEstoy deseando disfrutar del hermoso paisaje. El Proyecto Marion Libre de Ratones es una empresa registrada sin \u00e1nimo de lucro (n\u00ba 2020\/922433\/08) en Sud\u00e1frica, creada para erradicar los ratones invasores que matan a los albatros en la isla de Marion, en el Oc\u00e9ano Austral. El proyecto fue iniciado por
